Market conditions remained heavily influenced by geopolitical developments between the US and Iran. Interest rate expectations also shifted during the month: inflation had been rising steadily, but July saw a meaningful drop. Oil prices fell 13% in the three days leading into the inflation release, contributing to the lower inflation print and interest rates being held. Shortly after rates were confirmed on hold, oil rebounded 13% as negotiations again deteriorated.

Keeping with the theme to understand me. My professional background is accounting and tax, though it started in a very unexpected way. Like many teenagers finishing high school, I had no clear idea of what to do next and planned to take a year off — which didn’t go down well at home. Then I came across a trainee accountant job in the newspaper.

A week later I had the job, and two days after that I was enrolled in university. For six years I juggled full‑time work, night classes until 10pm, studying, and playing sports. It was tough, but it built the discipline and resilience that have stayed with me throughout my career and personal life.

I was lucky to have two senior accountants take me under their wing and a young manager who pushed boundaries and challenged the status quo. That combination shaped how I think, how I work, and how I approach the world today. Those early years were hard, but they set me up for everything that came after.
